Accomplishments of The Friends of Algonquin Park

A list of other Friends' accomplishment is long, but highlights include:

  • Playing a lead role in the development of over 75 kilometres of interpretive trails, and their respective natural and human history themed interpretive guidebooks;
  • Funding up to 74% of all education and interpretive spending in Algonquin Provincial Park;
  • Providing front-line staff at the Algonquin Visitor Centre and Logging Museum throughout the year;
  • Operating the Algonquin Park Group Education Program that brings 6,000 students, teachers, and organized groups to the Park to participate in learning experiences not duplicated in traditional classrooms;
  • Experience Algonquin Workshops which educates visitors about the Park's plants, animals, research, culture and recreation;
  • Developing educational initiatives targeted outside Park boundaries, like "The Science Behind Algonquin's Animals", a web-based program which focuses on technology and wildlife research in Algonquin;
  • Funding the Naturalist Trainee Program, where young up-and-coming naturalists apprentice with veteran interpreters during the busy summer season;
  • Supporting the Algonquin Park Archives through the hiring of seasonal staff, and the purchasing of archives related equipment, needed to preserve the Park's cultural history;
  • Hosting the Official Algonquin Park website (www.algonquinpark.on.ca) featuring timely and detailed Park related information; and
  • Being assisted by over 2,300 members who support the work of The Friends of Algonquin Park.
