How the pack was found
The naturalist staff scouting for wolves had a response of two pups and 1 adult on Wednesday night. Having heard pups usually means that we have found the rendezvous site and there is a good chance that the pack was close by and would remain.
What happened at the howl?
240 cars and 960 people decided to travel out to the howl site despite the wet conditions. Conditions had improved by the time we attempted the howls but we were unsuccessful hearing a response.
Comments from the Chief Park Naturalist
The weather was good all day but the rain started just before 8:00pm and lasted over an hour. This likely resulted in the smaller than expected crowd and some people left the Outdoor Theatre before we travelled to the howling site. Although we were not successful, many people commented they still enjoyed the whole experience.
