Seasonal Park Naturalist - Summer 2012

Duties

  • Seasonal Naturalist Job Ad 2012Develop and deliver high-quality interpretive programs for the public, including guided walks, evening slide presentations, historical, and children's programs;
  • Assist with other Park programs such as Public Wolf Howls;
  • Provide customer service support at the Visitor Centre;
  • Contribute to the park's flora and fauna records;
  • Create new props and materials for use in programs;
  • Maintain and expand our extensive natural history and photographic collections; and
  • Assist in the development of publications and exhibits
  • Act as an ambassador for the Park's education program
  • A variety of positions are available, depending on your experience.

Qualifications

  • Expansive knowledge of Ontario's natural history (flora, fauna, geology) and cultural history, or the ability to assimilate this knowledge quickly based on in-depth experience elsewhere
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to customer service excellence
  • Excellent presentation, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team, follow and carry out instructions, and work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use word-processing and presentation software applications (Word, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Valid MTO Class "G" Driver's Licence (not compulsory for junior positions)

Remuneration

  • Wages from Provincial Minimum – $21.42/hour.

Seasonal employment opportunities in Algonquin include:

  • Park gate and/or Park office staff
  • general maintenance workers
  • backcountry rangers (on Algonquin's canoe routes and backpacking trails)
  • Park Wardens (enforcement)

The normal period of employment is from mid-June to Labour Day.
