Date of Public Wolf Howl: Thursday,
September 3, 2009
Location: Kilometre 21.5
Result: Successful
Total number of vehicles: 214
Estimated number of people in attendance: 856
Number of staff working: 19
How the pack was found:
This pack was first heard by naturalist staff living at the staff house behind the Algonquin Art Centre in late July. The staff did not hear the pack on Tuesday night but on Wednesday night, staff heard several adults.
What happened at the howl?
We moved the line of cars to the east this week centred at Kilometre 21.5. A single adult responded to the very first human howl. After the ten-minute break, we proceeded with the second howling sequence but no response was heard.
Comments:
With Labour Day being late this year (September 7th) and with some school boards deciding to start classes before Labour Day, the Park was not busy. As a result, this was the smallest Public Wolf Howl since 1989. |
