Synopsis of Public Wolf Howl #106

Date of Public Wolf Howl: Thursday, August 27, 2009
Location: Kilometre 20 (Art Centre)
Result: Unsuccessful
Total number of vehicles: 382
Estimated number of people in attendance: 1,528
Number of staff working: 21

How the pack was found:
This pack was first heard by naturalist staff living at the staff house behind the Algonquin Art Centre in late July. The staff did not hear the pack on Tuesday night but the conditions were poor (very windy). On Wednesday night, staff heard one adult and one pup and it seemed reasonable the pack was still using the area as their rendezvous site.

What happened at the howl?
We used the Art Centre parking lot to park approximately 70 cars and we did not have a second line of cars east of this location as it was deemed unsafe to have two lines of parked cars through the "S" turn just east of the Art Centre. The night was perfect for howling…but no response was heard by most attending.

Comments:
Although no response was heard by most, several people at the end of the line on the east side did hear the pack respond. It appears that the pack had again moved to the east.
