Date of Public Wolf Howl: Thursday,
August 13, 2009
Location: Kilometre 20 (Art Centre)
Result: Unsuccessful
Total number of vehicles: 455
Estimated number of people in attendance: 1,820
Number of staff working: 19
How the pack was found:
This pack was first heard by naturalist staff living at the staff house behind the Algonquin Art Centre in late July. The staff did not hear the pack on Tuesday night but did hear them on Wednesday night (although the pack had moved slightly to the east).
What happened at the howl?
We used the Art Centre parking lot to park approximately 70 cars and we did not have a second line of cars east of this location as it was deemed unsafe to have two lines of parked cars through the "S" turn just east of the Art Centre. The night was perfect for howling…but no response.
Comments:
The pups seem to be on the move now and not just using the original rendezvous site. Although the full pack was heard on Wednesday night, no response was heard with the perfect conditions. |
