Synopsis of Public Wolf Howl #100

Date of Public Wolf Howl: Thursday, August 7, 2008
Location: 1 kilometre east of East Gate
Result: Unsuccessful
Total number of vehicles: 371
Estimated number of people in attendance: 1,484
Number of staff working: 23

How the pack was found:
This pack was found by the naturalist staff on August 6 but it was not heard the night before (August 5). However, this has been a traditional rendezvous site and we felt comfortable using this location.

What happened at the howl?
The weather did not help us this night! At 7:30 p.m. we had rain, thunder and lightning and we encouraged the early visitors at the Outdoor Theatre to return to their cars. We started the program at 8:10 p.m. and by 8:30 p.m. it started to rain again. Although the weather cleared by the time we were set up at the howl site, the wind was still strong and made hearing difficult. We had no response.

Comments:
This was our 100th Public Wolf Howl and we handed out one sticker per car with a picture of a howling wolf and the slogan, "One of the pack at the 100th Public Wolf Howl, Algonquin Park, August 2008."
