Special Bulletin For All Algonquin Park Users

OpenAs of May 1, 2013, Ontario Parks will be issuing backcountry permits for open and accessible locations in Algonquin Park. Early spring visitors should check the following webpages prior to their visit:


On April 22, 2013 Ontario Park was reporting:

Important Bulletin"Heavy rains combined with melting snow, frozen lakes and partially frozen and/or saturated soil conditions has caused flooding and damaged many roads and trails in Algonquin Park last week. According to Environment Canada data, the East Gate of Algonquin Park received 61 millimeters of rain on April 18 and 19, 2013.

  • Effective immediately, backcountry permits will not be issued for over-night camping. Day use in the backcountry is permitted in areas that are accessible. For backcountry (interior) reservations that currently exist, full refunds will apply. No penalty for cancellation or to change booking dates. More about backcountry reservations >

Many low lying areas are currently flooding. Park visitors are strongly encourage to avoid flooded areas and fast moving water such as creeks and rivers. In the interest of public safety all day use activities on Algonquin waterways are strongly discouraged.

The Highway 60 corridor remains open with developed camping opportunities but limited trail use. The Visitor Centre is open daily starting April 27, 2013.
