Algonquin Park Restricted Fire Zone Ended

The Ontario Government is reporting:

"The Restricted Fire Zone for Algonquin Provincial Park has been ended as of 12:01 a.m., Thursday, August 9, 2012. Recent changes in weather have helped alleviate the wildfire hazard.

The Restricted Fire Zone was declared on July 18, 2012 due to extreme fire hazard conditions at the time. Campfires will be allowed for cooking and warmth in Algonquin Provincial Park with the lifting of the restrictions.

Forest fire prevention is everyone's responsibility. Campers should keep campfires small and never leave them unattended. Always ensure fires are put out before leaving the site by drowning your fire, stirring the ashes with a stick to uncover hot coals and then drowning it again."

Algonquin Park user are reminded to use caution with campfires in developed and backcountry areas. Learn more about campfire safety.
