UPDATE - August 9, 2012

The Ontario Government is reporting:

Restrictions Lifted On Outdoor Burning In Algonquin Provincial Park

The Restricted Fire Zone for Algonquin Park ended at 12:01 a.m., Thursday, August 9, 2012. Recent changes in weather have helped alleviate the wildfire hazard.

The Restricted Fire Zone was declared on July 18, 2012 due to extreme fire hazard conditions at the time. Campfires will be allowed for cooking and warmth in Algonquin Provincial Park with the lifting of the restrictions.

Forest fire prevention is everyone's responsibility. Campers should keep campfires small and never leave them unattended. Always ensure fires are put out before leaving the site by drowning your fire, stirring the ashes with a stick to uncover hot coals and then drowning it again.
